If you googled "how much do fiber sales reps make," here's the truth: nobody honest can promise you a number. What we can do is show you exactly how the machine pays — and how to spot the companies that are lying to you about it.
Apply in 30 seconds →You're a 1099 independent contractor. You earn a commission on each completed install — a household you signed whose fiber actually gets installed and activated. Payouts run on a biweekly cycle: installs that complete in a pay period pay out on the next check. There's no base pay, no quota — the same structure that means nothing is guaranteed also means nothing is capped.
Two reasons. First, it would be a guess dressed up as a promise: output in this job tracks doors knocked, hours on turf, and skill — and the spread between reps is enormous. Second, income claims in recruiting are regulated (the FTC watches earnings claims closely, and it should). Companies shouting "up to" some huge weekly figure are quoting their best-ever outlier or inventing it. Treat any guaranteed-sounding number in a commission-job ad as a red flag. "Individual results vary and no earnings are guaranteed" isn't fine print here — it's the honest description of every commission job, including this one.
Being a contractor means you're effectively a one-person business. Three things new reps wish they'd known sooner: nothing is withheld from your payouts, so set a slice of every check aside for taxes; the IRS expects quarterly estimated payments once you owe enough; and business costs (mileage between turfs, part of your phone) may be deductible. None of this is tax advice — a tax professional pays for themselves fast in this job.
Screenshot this list and use it on every D2D recruiter, including ours:
1. What exactly triggers payment — the sale or the completed install? (Here: completed installs.)
2. How often do payouts run? (Here: every two weeks.)
3. Is there a cap or a quota? (Here: neither.)
4. What happens if the customer cancels before install? (If it never completes, it doesn't pay — anywhere. A company that pretends otherwise is hiding the clawback in the fine print.)
5. Is there base pay? (Here: no — commission only, and we say so up front. Anyone who says "it's basically a salary" about a commission role is selling you.)
