BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A MARKET

Fiber Sales Territory: Coverage, Placement & Assigned Doors

Short answer: Fiber availability, a partner's ability to place a rep and the addresses assigned to that rep are separate facts; a coverage map or city recruiting page alone does not confirm a territory for you.

Published September 30, 2026

A city can have fiber without having a team ready to take a new solo rep. A team can be recruiting without having assigned your streets. Check each part before you make plans to work a market.

Three questions a coverage map cannot answer on its own

What each kind of evidence establishes
QuestionWhat to check
Does the carrier serve the area?Read the carrier's current availability information and check the intended address. Area-level data provides context, not a result for every home.
Can a partner place me there?Ask the recruiter to confirm a partner, the role being discussed and whether that partner is taking candidates for that market.
Which doors may I work?Get the assignment and field instructions from the partner responsible for the team before working the area.

Keep the source beside the answer: carrier information for availability, a current partner confirmation for placement, and the partner's assignment for fieldwork. One does not replace the others.

Read the role: solo rep or team lead

KnockFiber's city pages distinguish rep and team-lead opportunities. A team-lead page is a conversation about bringing or building a crew; do not read it as confirmation that a solo rep can immediately join an existing team in that city.

If you are applying alone, say that. If you lead a crew, explain where its members are and who is actually ready to move forward. Ask the recruiter which partner can evaluate that plan. A team-lead application does not guarantee a new market will open, that the whole crew will be accepted or that anyone receives a particular territory.

Start with the city list and read the role on the individual page. Crew leaders can use the team application guide.

Use coverage data as context, not a door list

The KnockFiber fiber-coverage page explains its FCC source and Census-Place method. A town's coverage figure summarizes locations in that place. It does not identify an available team, allocate sales rights or tell you that every street is serviceable.

A carrier page may distinguish service available now from a build still in progress. Read that distinction and the source date. Then ask the partner which addresses are currently eligible for its program. Do not turn a planned build or a town-wide percentage into a promise to a customer.

Ask these questions before traveling or starting

  1. Which partner and role are we discussing? Confirm whether you are being considered as a solo rep or a team lead.
  2. What is confirmed today? Separate an available placement from a request awaiting a partner's answer.
  3. Who assigns the territory? Ask how you receive approved addresses and what to do when an address is not serviceable.
  4. What must happen before fieldwork? Confirm onboarding, training, badging and the local steps relevant to that location.
  5. What are the actual terms? Confirm how completed installs, cancellations and payment timing work in that partner program.

Ask for a clear answer before making a travel or relocation commitment. These are 1099 independent-contractor, commission-only opportunities. Individual results vary and no earnings are guaranteed.

If a placement is not confirmed yet

Tell the recruiter your real location and whether you can consider another area. Ask what needs confirmation and whether there is a different role or market to discuss. Do not treat a nearby city's opening as permission to work your own town.

KnockFiber collects applications and helps discuss the fit with partner organizations. Submission is not a job offer, a guaranteed start date or an assignment of territory. Use the application and onboarding checklist to keep track of what is still needed.

Common questions

Does fiber coverage mean a sales job is available?
No. Carrier coverage describes the network. Placement also requires a partner that can consider you for a specific role and market. Your field assignment is a separate confirmation.
Can I knock any neighborhood shown on a fiber map?
A coverage map is not a sales assignment. Confirm your approved territory, serviceable addresses and field instructions with the partner before working doors.
Can a solo rep apply through a team-lead page?
Tell the recruiter you are applying solo. A team-lead opportunity concerns a crew and is not confirmation that a solo rep can join an existing team in that town. Ask whether a suitable solo placement is available.
Does a town's coverage percentage apply to every home?
No. The coverage page describes area-level data and its source date. Check the specific address through current carrier information and the partner's program before treating it as serviceable.
Does an application guarantee territory or a start date?
No. Confirm partner acceptance, onboarding and the actual assignment separately. Do not make travel or relocation commitments based only on a coverage map, city page or application confirmation.
