Wilmington at a glance

Brunswick County new-builds mean first-service conversations on brand-new streets, week after week.

Wilmington counted 115,451 residents at the 2020 census — about 125,300 by the Census Bureau's 2024 estimate, growth of more than 8 percent — on roughly 51 square miles of land. UNC Wilmington enrolled a record 19,895 students in fall 2025, and Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center is an 823-bed regional referral hospital and UNC School of Medicine branch campus on South 17th Street. Housing leans renter: 53 percent of occupied homes are rented, about half of all units are detached single-family houses, and 15 percent were built in 2010 or later. For a recruiter that means students, hospital shift workers and newcomers, many of them renters, in a city that is still adding residents every year.

Wilmington fiber sales — FAQ

Do I need experience to sell fiber in Wilmington?
No experience requirement is set. In Wilmington the opening is for team leads and their crews. If you run a door-to-door crew, or have two or more people ready to knock with you, apply as a team. Solo reps: apply anyway — we keep your application and reach out when Wilmington opens to solo reps.
How and when do I get paid?
Commission only, paid every two weeks on completed installs. No base. Individual results vary; no earnings are guaranteed.
What areas of Wilmington will I cover?
The partner sales organization that places you assigns the addresses you work. This page covers Wilmington and nearby areas such as Porters Neck, Ogden, Monkey Junction, Hampstead, and Carolina Beach. It does not confirm a territory for you.
Is this a job or a 1099 contract?
This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity — you set your own schedule within the partner's market; the partner sales organization provides its brand, scripts and support.
Are there door-to-door fiber sales jobs near me in Wilmington?
Yes — for teams. KnockFiber is recruiting door-to-door team leads and crews to sell T-Mobile fiber in Wilmington and the surrounding Cape Fear coast area. If you run a door-to-door crew, or have two or more people ready to knock with you, apply as a team. Solo reps: apply anyway — we keep your application and reach out when Wilmington opens to solo reps. Commission-only 1099; individual results vary and no earnings are guaranteed.
Is T-Mobile Fiber available in Wilmington right now?
Yes, at serviceable addresses. T-Mobile's fiber availability page lists Wilmington, and its Wilmington city page shows 300 Mbps, 1 Gig and 2 Gig plans with the note that service is not available in all areas. Two builders now in T-Mobile joint ventures are at work. Metronet began laying cable in Wilmington on June 28, 2024 and said on March 10, 2025 that service was launching neighborhood by neighborhood. Lumos announced a 655-mile build in 2023 covering portions of Wilmington and Carolina Beach plus Ogden, Myrtle Grove, Castle Hayne and Wrightsboro, and its own page lists Wilmington as fiber available. Every address is checked individually.
What other fiber is already in Wilmington?
AT&T says AT&T Fiber is available in parts of Wilmington, with availability depending on the specific address, according to its Wilmington page as of September 2026. Lumos, when it began construction in February 2024, described itself as the first fiber provider for most of the area it planned to build. Put together, some Wilmington blocks have more than one fiber option and others are getting their first. Knowing which is which on a given street shapes the conversation at the door, so ask your sales organization how it maps competing providers before you start.
How do hurricane season and summer heat affect knocking in Wilmington?
They set the calendar. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, according to the National Hurricane Center, and NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for Wilmington International Airport show about 60 inches of rain a year, July highs near 90 degrees and roughly 45 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter. Winters are mild, with January highs near 57 degrees and less than an inch of snow in a normal year. A workable summer plan uses mornings and early evenings and stands down when a storm threatens; fall through spring are the most comfortable knocking months.
Where is new construction around Wilmington?
Mostly outside the city limits. Census Bureau estimates show fast growth from 2020 to 2024 in two Brunswick County towns, Belville about 36 percent and Navassa about 30 percent, while Holly Ridge and Surf City to the north grew about 38 and 28 percent. Wilmington itself grew about 8 percent. Porters Neck, Ogden and Myrtle Grove are unincorporated communities in New Hanover County rather than parts of the city; Metronet named them in its build plan.

Blitz teams

A blitz team travels to whichever market has just opened for door-to-door fiber sales — not necessarily this one — works it intensively for a set window, then moves on. KnockFiber is looking for blitz teams, blitz managers and reps who will travel to work fresh markets.
